New York City Police Department Community Councils have been in operation since 1943. Today, there is a Council in each of the city's precincts.
Each Council, which generally meets on a monthly basis, provides the community with an opportunity for direct communication with the Precinct's Commanding Officer and other key police personnel in order to enhance relations between the police and the community, to promote NYPD programs, to initiate Council-sponsored programs and events that enhances public safety and the quality of life in the community, and to recruit broad and diverse community participation in the Council.
All members of the public are welcome to attend and actively participate in monthly Council meetings.
The 109 Community Council meets at the 109th precinct on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. You will have the opportunity to speak with the Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Whelan and voice any issues and/or concerns you may have. There is an update on council and community events. There will also be a guest speaker who will lecture on a safety, health or community topic. The Council fosters and encourages a strong partnership between communtity residents, businesses and the precinct. Whether you live or work in the community our goals are common as we strive to keep our homes, families and community as safe and enriched as possible.
