112th Precinct Community Council

Dear Neighbor: Jan 2004

May 23, 2004

I wish you a safe, happy, healthy, prosperous new year. As we start the year of new beginnings we have a new commanding officer of the 112th precinct- Captain John Philbin. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Captain Philbin for his enthusiasm and efforts on our behalf. He has reached out to the community. It is wonderful when someone immediately demonstrates that he cares. We welcome him to our neighborhood and are sure that he will have a very successful tenure as our commanding officer.
Our December party was a great success. (See pictures inside.) Police Commissioner Kelly attended and stayed many hours speaking to everyone. We appreciate his time and efforts on our behalf. We value the opportunity for the direct communication between the police department and our residents. We have excellent police/community relations. The precinct and the patrol borough are responsive to our needs and additionally help us provide unique programs for our residents. We thanked Commissioner Kelly, Chief Tuller, Captain Philbin and Captain Stravalle for the outstanding police services provided to our community. I would like to thank all of our volunteers who helped make this party a success. P.O. Carl Calderone provided the Karaoke music and David Steinberg provided the equipment and participated at the party.
We have many important programs to better our community. The Vial of Life magnets and forms are available at all of our meetings and at the front desk of the precinct. As you know, these forms should be completed, placed in a plastic bag, and taped inside your refrigerator on the left side under the top shelf. The magnet should be placed on the refrigerator or on the phone in your kitchen. By participating you insure that your information is available to emergency personnel.
We are continuing to work with the precinct to ?“clean-up?” the graffiti in Forest Hills and Rego Park. The council presented a check to the precinct for new equipment for this effort. Our ?“clean-up?” with our volunteers will be resuming in the spring.
On Wednesday January 21st representatives from the NYPD hate crimes task force will be speaking at our Precinct Council meeting. We hope that you will attend this informative presentation.
The Precinct Council will be sponsoring courses for people who live or work in our community. The courses are the American Heart Association CPR course for friends and family and the DMV Accident prevention course. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these opportunities. Our Council will be paying for the materials, but we will need to know the number of participants to have adequate materials. Please call community affairs at 718 520-9321 to register.
We thank Congressman Anthony Weiner for our grant to provide courses and purchase needed equipment for the council and the precinct. We thank Assemblyman Michael Cohen for our grant for our newsletter. We thank Councilwoman Melinda Katz for our grant that pays for our graffiti removal efforts and other police/community programs.
BE CAREFUL! STAY SAFE!
Very truly yours,
Heidi Harrison Chain
President
