112th Precinct Community Council

Dear Neighbor by Heidi Harrison Chain - Jan 2006

Jan 20, 2006

I hope you have a great, safe, happy, healthy wonderful 2006! I look forward to working with you and that together we can help to better our community. As we start a new year, I want to acknowledge the outstanding work of the members of the 112th precinct under the command of DI John Philbin and thank everyone for the excellent police services provided to our area. Crime is down, in addition, the precinct helps provide extra services to the community to better our quality of life. We also must acknowledge the leadership of Chief James Tuller and thank the members of Patrol Borough Queens North for their efforts on our behalf.
In December we had our holiday meeting and I must thank the Melodians for performing for us. I also must thank all of our volunteers for all of our events. We appreciate all of your help and we thank all of the donors who contribute to our fund raising drive.
I hope to see everyone at our January 18th meeting at the Precinct at 7:30 P.M. with our guest speaker from the NYPD evidence collection division. Learn how evidence is really gathered! It should be a great meeting. If you can not attend or want to let us know of an issue or something that you want to share, please email us at Council112@yahoo.com or write to us at PO Box 750654, Forest Hills, N.Y. 11375.
The council and HSBC BANK USA are sponsoring our eighth anti drug essay contest. If your child, grandchild, niece or nephew is in grades 4 thru 9?– I encourage you to have them enter the contest. Entries should be submitted on January 16th to the 112th precinct.
There were muggings in our subway stations and the individual responsible for the series of attacks was arrested. It became clear that having cameras at our subway stations would improve our safety. I wrote to the MTA requesting cameras and help so that our residents and people who work here, shop here and use the stations of Transit District 20 are as safe as riders in other parts of the City. We have the same rights to safety. The MTA wrote back to the council denying our request. Many of you joined with me and again wrote back to the MTA. Our efforts to get the cameras was discussed in the Sunday NY Times. Hopefully during 2006 we will have some progress in this area.
In November, we held the following free courses: the basic first aid course, the DMV accident prevention course. We will schedule these courses again in 2006.
We are continuing to compile the database of apartment buildings in our community. You should have a plan in the event of any emergency. You should be aware who are your disabled residents who may need your help in the event of any emergency.
BE CAREFUL! STAY SAFE! Very truly yours,
Heidi Harrison Chain
