Beware of Phone Calls from “Police Organizations”

Remember that the Police Department will NOT call you seeking donations. Nor will the City of New York, the Fire Department, etc. There are groups that are calling people claiming to be affiliated with the Police Department . These groups are not the NYPD.

An article in The Chief , Friday December 26, 2003 entitled ?“ For the Record?”
indicates:
?“The organizer of a fraudulent police charity was sentenced to eight years in prison Dec. 16th?….Justin White, who led the Police Survivors Fund...instructed his telemarketers after the Sept. 11th attacks to urge people to donate $911 to help the families of police officers killed at the Trade Center?….The fund raised $180,000?…, all of which Mr. White pocketed as cash.?”
