112th Precinct Community Council

My best wishes to you for a safe, happy, healthy and successful 2009. As we have published for many years, we have new 2009 safety calendars for you with important information. If you did not receive your calendar at the December meeting we will have the calendars for you at our January 21st precinct council meeting at the precinct at 7:30 p.m. Our guest speaker will be from NYC HRA.
I hope that you participate with our Council. As we start 2009, I want to congratulate and thank Chief Pizzuti, Captain Tamola and the members of the 112th precinct and Patrol Borough Queens North. They have delivered successful service to our community, succeeding in reducing crime in 2008 while also helping us deliver wonderful programs to you.
Our December meeting was a great success. The Police Auxiliary Band gave a wonderful performance. Together with HSBC, we awarded the prizes to the winners of our 11th annual antidrug essay contest (see inside). We also had the art on display from our November art contest. I want to thank everyone who helped that night. Tropix Bar donated the soda for the event. Our great volunteers who helped including the following people who signed in: Todd Resiman, Karen Mongiello, Larry Berkowitz, Gail Becker, Amanda Becker, Kathryn Thorne, Rosalind Pinto, Lewis Prono, John Kelly, Jane Levy, Robert Levy, Albert Biras, Vivian Richman, Raphael De La Paz, Elsa Suazo, Ann Whyte, Anita Harrison, Janet Blumenthal, Ken Israel, Shirley Malamed, Lillian Meglino, Sgt. Everoski, PO Gigi Rezematovic, PO James Smith, PO Zena Vailes, PO Arthur Kohrs, and our 112th auxiliary police officers. I know there are others who helped but did not sign in. We thank you all.
As we start the new year, be sure you have needed supplies in case of emergency. The recommendation is for water for 3 days. You should have canned food, a manual can opener, and all of your medications. In the event that there is an emergency in which we lose electric power, you should have batteries, flashlights and a radio. It also is a good idea to keep an extra blanket in the house and in the car. You should also have a whistle in the event of an emergency. We will distribute the whistles again at our January meeting. In addition, you might want to be sure that you have a sufficient amount of ?“spare?” cash in your house. You should have in a location outside of your house or apartment a list of your valuables, with pictures - in case you ever need it for insurance purposes. You should have a list of all of your bank accounts, credit cards, and the phone numbers of the banks. You should have a copy of your important documents. In addition, you should have a copy of your medical history, contacts, insurance policies, etc. We will again be distributing the vial of life magnets and the vial of life information sheets which summarize the important medical information.
