112th Precinct Community Council

Captain Tamola's letter to the community

Jul 16, 2008

Welcome to another exciting issue of the 112th Community Council Newsletter. The past spring there have been a number of events that I would like to highlight.

First, with the help of our 112th Precinct Community Council and the Forest Hills Rego Park Lions, the Health Safety Fair was held on Saturday, April 13th in MacDonald Park, and was a huge success. The precinct participated with the community at the Memorial Day Parade on Metropolitan Ave., the Austin Street Fair and the 63rd Drive Street Fair. The 112th Precinct Community Council, the Forest Hills Community and Civic Association and Maspeth Bank co-sponsored a Tolerance Essay contest. We jointly held the Essay contest awards ceremony at the Queens Museum of Art. We all enjoyed the tour of the Museum and the reading the students winning essays. The precinct and the precinct council sponsored another Driver Education course. Patrol Borough Queens North, the 112th Precinct, the 112th Precinct Community Council, the Queens District Attorney and Forest Hills High School all worked together on the Criminal Justice Youth Project. The students having completed their training are now participating in real hearings.

Please be especially aware of any suspicious activity on your block. Continue to use 911 for Medical, Police or Fire Emergencies. Remember that the New York City Quality of Life Hotline is 311; use this number to report non-emergency conditions such as loud noise, blocked driveways or street conditions i.e. missing signs or defective traffic signals or lights and sanitation conditions. Suspected terrorism can be reported to the Terrorism Hotline at 1888-6927233.

We have many beneficial programs available, such as the Home Security Survey, VIN ( Vehicle Identification Number) Etching Program, Bike Registration, Operation ID and Summer Safety Tips. Please call the Crime Prevention Officer, Zena Vailes, for details call (718) 520-9319 she will be glad to assist you with your questions.

Finally, remember save the date, mark your calendar now for Tuesday, August 5th our 25th National Night Out Against Crime will be held in MacDonald Park, located at the intersection of Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard at 6:00 to 9:00 PM/ It will be as always a night to remember for all of us. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please call my Community Affairs Officers James Smith and Gigi Redzematovic at (718) 520-9321. Thank you in advance for all of your support and participation. Have a safe and wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Captain Christopher Tamola
Commanding Officer
