Peter Finlay Fry, Chair of the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Association Urban Development and Land Use Committee, visited both the Foster and 82nd Avenue associations this summer to find out what issues caused the businesses problems.
Foster's issues included:
Need for off street parking on Foster between 52nd and 82nd, No net loss housing ideal keeps businesses from developing parking lots, Need crosswalks and lights at SE 69th, 64th and 72nd, Permitting process and landscaping requirements are excessive.
82nd Avenue's issues included:
No transit on SE 92nd Avenue, No sidewalks between SE Holgate and SE Powell on 92nd Avenue, Sidewalk only 4 feet wide on 82nd from Foster south, The development pattern on SE 82nd Avenue needs to be similar to the large commercial and institutional campuses around Sunnyside and Sunnybrook roads, Need better circulation on side streets off of 82nd Avenue to remove local circulation from 82nd Avenue.
Issues have been collected from all the Business Associations in Portland. The completed survey will be presented to the Portland City Council and used to guide Fry's committee when responding to city legislation, policy and planning changes.
