Abbott-Downing Neighborhood Association

Meeting Minutes 07.01.03

Jill Seifried updated us on City Planning.

· ADNA has received its first grant from the City of Concord Charitable Foundation Grant of $3,500.00, to go toward the legal fees for the filing process of our 5013c non-profit status.
· She reported that the Home Improvement workshop last month was a big success, and that if people missed it, the CATCH office has materials for anyone who would like to stop by and get copies.
· On the traffic- calming project, she reported that there’s lots of feedback about the chicanes on Downing Street, and these will be re-worked. The raised intersection on Monroe Street in scheduled to go in shortly, and this too, will be something new and will probably provoke some outspoken responses. She asked everyone in the room to help them evaluate this new technique.
· The proposed Roundabouts on West Broadway will be discussed at a meeting on July 9 at the West Street Ward House.

Update from Kimberly

· Peter Imse a lawyer with _???_______ has been chosen to assist us with the lengthy process of filing our 5013c paperwork with the state and IRS to become a community based non-profit. Although this legal process normally cost around $ 5,000 his firm has graciously offered Peters services so that we come in at the $3,500 we have budgeted in our grant from the city. Kimberly will do as much leg- work as possible to accomplish this. Her goal is to come in under the amount budgeted.

Karen Updated us on upcoming Events and Projects

Election of Neighborhood Officers
· Karen nominated the following slate, and after it was seconded, all 7 ADNA Members present at the meeting passed it unanimously:

Kimberly Shepherd, Chair
Karen McClellan, Co-chair
Sky Merritz, Treasurer
Maggie Stier, Secretary

· Market Days July 9 – 11. Karen reminded everyone of this downtown festival, but said ADNA will wait until next year to participate as a group.

· 20/20’s 2nd Annual River Jamboree, July 12, 10:45 to 3 pm. ADNA will staff the face-painting booth all day. We’re looking for volunteers; please call 228-0220. Supplies will be furnished by 20/20. It was suggested that we have a big map of the neighborhood and invite people to mark their homes with pushpins on the map. Jill and Kim will take care of making this happen. We hope to recruit new members at the booth.

· 1st Annual ADNA Event, September 13/ Rain date Sept. 20th
We brainstormed ideas for this event, including a name.
Everyone liked “Abbott-Downing Neighborhood Festival.”

Looking Ahead

· We will have our own website www.neighborhoodlink.com, zipcode 03301. A volunteer is redesigning our page and eventually lots of information will be posted there.

· We already have 6 street captains to help with publicizing our activities and mobilizing our constituency.

· Member Alice Maltais identified the need for more police patrols of the Rumford School playground, especially in the evening when there is drinking and smoking going on there. ADNA secretary will draft a letter addressed to Concord Police and bring it to our August meeting so that everyone can sign it. We hope to have a representative from the Police Department come to our September meeting and work with us to resolve this issue.

· Secretary will create address file for email communication among ADNA members.

· All of us need to help recruit new members!

Please mark your calendars now.

NEXT MEETING is TUESDAY, AUGUST 5 in the Choir Room adjacent to St John’s Activity Center. We’ll meet from 7 to 8:30 pm. Come and bring a neighbor.
