I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pat Perlinger for volunteering as our new South Suburban Parks and Recreation Representative. He submitted our latest Matching Gifts request in March to South Suburban Parks and Recreation.
Over the years we have had several projects completed through the Matching Gifts program. One of the great benefits of this program is that it cuts the cost of many worthwhile projects down to a more manageable size. With our limited funds it is one way for us to make a positive difference in our community.
Our request this year was for additional boulders at Altair Park between Kohls and the parking lot at Altair Park. We are also asking in that request for some work to be done at the end of the parking lot that will make that area more attractive. Hopefully, some tree pruning and general clean-up can be done as well as finding a replacement for the ugly orange and white barricade.
As difficult as it is for most of us to believe, someone has been driving over private property to get to Quebec Street through the Kohls parking lot. While South Suburban has moved boulders around in an effort to discourage this behavior, it has not eliminated it.
We should know in April if our request will be granted. If it is granted, work is expected to be completed this summer.
We estimate that the cost for this request will be about $4,000 of which, if this project is approved half will come from South Suburban?’s Matching Gift fund. The remainder will come primarily from our membership dues.
Why not take this opportunity to join the association today and help us make a positive difference.
Don?’t forget, members can advertise their garage sale in the next issue of the Greenleaf for FREE. Simply clip out the membership form below and send it along with your check to me at the address printed. Thank you!
