Grant Committee - Argyle Area Civic Council - February 3, 2003

TO THE ARGYLE COMMUNITIES,

The Argyle Area Civic Council (AACC) approved the formation of a new Grant Committee at its January 16th meeting. The Grant Committee will assist Argyle area Home Owners Associations (HOAs) in Duval and Clay counties with grant writing by addressing the special needs of each neighborhood, and the Argyle Community as a whole, by identifying, researching and applying for funds from a wide variety of resources. Committee members include Lori Grieder, Andy Rial, and Renae Waldkirch.

'The AACC wants to do everything possible to establish

the Argyle area as a model for other communities. By coupling these financial resources with 'grassroots' efforts, we believe that we can have a dramatic, ongoing impact." -- AACC President Kenneth Bible.

The Mayor's Neighborhood Matching Grant is one of the grants

available to Argyle communities. The Mayor's Neighborhood Matching Grants (MNMG) Program makes awards of up to $5,000 to specific neighborhood projects that build relationships and enhance the community. In 2002, as part of the city's continuing efforts to improve and strengthen Jacksonville neighborhoods, $250,000 was awarded for projects promoting stronger, healthier neighborhoods.

Another grant possibility is from the Children's Commission. The Commission believes strong neighborhoods and communities produce strong families and happy, healthy children. Through the New Ways Initiative, grant funds are distributed by the City's six Citizen Planning Advisory Committees (CPACs) after a competitive grant application process. When the new programs begin, children across the city will have additional opportunities for educational and recreational excursions, tutoring and homework assistance, the cultivation of racial harmony, beautifying neighborhoods, and more.
Designed by the Jacksonville Children's Commission, the New Ways Initiative puts funding for local children's programs in the hand of neighborhood representatives. Each CPAC receives $25,000 from the Commission and conducts its own process to award the funds.

We would like to gather ideas from everyone in the community. If you or your association has an idea, it can be submitted either at the AACC meetings each month, by E-mail at aaccgrantwriters@cs.com, or by mail at the following address:
