As you remember from our last news letter, THPRD allocated Metro Green Space funds. This item had an impact on our neighborhood and our park. The Park District had approximately $500,000 to purchase additional green space. Our park was among 11 other sites vying for these dollars for expansion. After much research and negotiations, the Park District came up with a list of three sites to actively pursue. Our park, LKJ, was chosen as # 3. THPRD would work with Mr. Troy Stevens to purchase his property as the extension to our Park providing there was enough funding available after the purchase of the first two parcels. Our greatest fear was realized?—-FUNDING WAS RUNNING OUT!
The neighborhood once again searches for additional funding.......
.....On April 12, 1999 we testified before the Beaverton City Counsel requesting that unallocated City funds be added to THPRDs chosen three parcels for purchase. The City Counsel voted to partner with THPRD by contributing $119,000 to acquire all three properties, which includes the extension to LKJ Park. In the next few months, THPRD will be working closely with Mr. Stevens to purchase his property.
