Arvada West

School Resource Officers

na

Seven Arvada police officers spend their patrol time in the city’s three four and three middle schools, serving the entire school community.

These officers are not hall monitors. The cadre performs patrol activities in-and-around the school to address key issues (traffic, criminal mischief, etc.) affecting the community. They work closely with school administrators, students and neighbors to help reduce crime and improve the overall quality of life in these areas.

What makes Arvada’s program different from other schools using police officers on campus? Arvada officers can be seen doing everything from enforcing the laws to providing classroom instruction. This results in improved relationships between students and police, as well as between the school and the surrounding community.

Accomplishments: Hear it From Them

"I helped obtain a federal grant to help fund team building training for peer counselors at the high school so they can better serve students."

-- Officer Jim Glasmann, Pomona High School

"Some people think all teenagers are bad drivers. To reward students who obey traffic laws, I helped create a good driver reward program. Students being recognized receive movie passes and other donated prizes for their good driving habits."
