In light of the recent sexual assaults by Brent J. Brents, the Denver Police Department created a self-defense class free to Denver residents.
I received information about the class in an email from APNA. (You need to get on the neighborhood email list!)
My mother and I signed up for this class as something to do together, as well as a way to learn to defend ourselves, if the situation called for it.
This great class was put on at the Denver Police Academy by volunteers, Police Officers, and four instructors from a local martial arts training center. The instructors gave simple hands-on demonstrations on how you can use your body as a weapon, as well as defense mechanisms to help you escape the perpetrator.
Practicing the maneuvers was the most fun because we were able to see how much strength we really had.
I totally recommend the class! If you would like more information on these classes, please contact the Denver Police Academy at 303-370-1500.
