General Membership Meeting, Elections & Honor Rita Montoya

Nov 06, 2005

TUESDAY, NOV. 22, 6:30PM, 430 S. TEJON

It?’s that time again -- time for the annual election of the Athmar Park Neighborhood Association board. Each November, our neighborhood has an opportunity to change leadership when one half of the board positions are up for re-election.

So, think about getting involved! You can help define the direction that our neighborhood takes and you can positively impact hundreds of lives by committing your time and energy towards making positive change in our neighborhood ?… so, run for a board position!?!

At press time, the slate of candidates for positions up for election this year are: Karen Cuthbertson for President, Susan Vermeer Lopez for Recording Secretary, Sergio Guzman, Ana Gonzales, Andy Davis, Carol e Campbell, and Andy Archuleta for four At-Large seats. The Newsletter Editor?’s position does not have a candidate at this time. APNA welcomes any member to toss his or her hat into the ring for any of these positions. Contact Karen at 303-936-9206 if you are interested in joining the Board and we?’ll get you on the ballot!

AWARD PRESENTATION
The highlight of the General Membership meeting will be a small ceremony to thank library staffer, Rita Montoya, with a special award. Rita has been in charge of facility maintenance at the Athmar Park Library (1055 S. Tejon) for just one short year. During that time, however, her dedication to the job and outstanding work ethic have impressed us all. Rita has made a big impact in our neighborhood by transforming the building and grounds from neglected to pristine and giving us a library to be proud of! Many thanks, Rita!

BY-LAW CHANGE
Other business before the membership that evening includes a proposal to make a small by-law change. The change will add email as another way APNA can conduct official business before the board when that business must be dealt with before the next meeting due to time constraints. Proposed by-law changes are in single quotes:

Section 4-6. Quorum: A quorum of the Board of Directors shall be a majority of the Board. All actions of the Board shall be only by vote of those present, or by a telephone?’/email?’ poll as defined in Section 4-8.

Section 4-8. Telephone Polling ?‘and Email Polling?’: Telephone polling ?‘and email?’ polling may be used to obtain and record the preferences of Board members on an issue, if every reasonable method is used to notify each Board member, and responses are obtained from not less than majority of all Board members. A written log shall be maintained by the Recording Secretary of all contacts and attempted contacts, and shall include date, time, telephone number, ?‘email address?’, summary of discussion (if any), and votes (if any).

Section 5-5. Recording Secretary: The Recording Secretary shall keep minutes of the proceedings of the membership and of the Board, keep all documents and records pertain to the operation and activities of APNA, including the telephone ?‘and email?’ polling log and file all reports required pursuant to law. The Recording Secretary may use a tape recorder to take minutes of meetings.

Please join us at the Valverde Community Church, (430 S. Tejon), at 6:30pm on Tuesday, November 22nd, as we elect the 2006 board and show our appreciation to Rita for making such a positive impact in our neighborhood.
