Every year, one half of our neighborhood association?’s 14 board positions are up for election to a new two-year term. Each election is an exciting opportunity for dynamic new leadership and energy to influence positive change in our neighborhood.
For that to happen, it is vital that the association have a wide spectrum of representation on each board. The opinions of many?–youth and senior, long-time residents and the newly arrived, AND everyone in between?–need to be voiced as decisions for the neighborhood are made.
This year, the Vice-President, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, and our four At-Large seats are on the ballot. APNA is also seeking a volunteer to serve one remaining year of the Recording Secretary?’s term due to a mid-term vacancy. If you?’d like to volunteer to influence positive change in our neighborhood by running for any of these positions or need more information contact Karen at 303-936-9206.
After the election, a guest speaker will be dealing with a tough subject that everyone, but especially parents of young children, needs to get educated about: sex offenders. There are over 3,000 registered sex offenders in the Denver Metro area.
Our guest speaker, Diane Wolta, from Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation, who works with sex offenders, will provide the inside story about how the current criminal justice system is failing community safety goals and how it can be fixed. There is a realistic and responsible solution. (Note: this is an adults-only discussion).
A tentative addition to this meeting?’s agenda is a presentation by two of Alameda Square Shopping Center?’s property owners. They are hoping to unveil conceptual drawings of an exciting redevelopment plan for the shopping enter.
The City has asked for plan revisions which may not be completed in time for this meeting so this is a tentative presentation as we go to press... get on our email list (athmarpark@ecentral.com) and we?’ll let you know at the last minute whether or not a presentation of ASSC redevelopment plans is possible at this time. If we don?’t get to see the redevelopment plans on the 13th as we all hope, we?’ll send out an email to let everyone know when the next chance to see the plans will be!
This important APNA election and general membership meeting will be held on Saturday, November 13th, 10am to noon, in the auditorium at Rishel, 451 S. Tejon Street.
We hope to see you there! Bring a neighbor along!
