Sorry, but there?’s just too much to be said regarding the possibility of the DART Storage Facility being located in Bachman.
The Lombardy location encompasses over 35 acres! It is NOT just the old Carpenter?’s Corner site. It is the WHOLE block?—from Lombardy on the South to Century on the North, and from Denton Drive on the West to Abernathy on the East. Completed construction would accommodate over 100 light rail cars and maintenance buildings for repairs.
There would be excessive noise in the area with all these rail cars coming and going, not to mention the additional rail traffic, which will create neighborhood traffic congestion.
Not only will DART not pay any property or sales taxes, but by eminent domain, they will displace approximately 30 businesses, and kill at least 300 Bachman jobs. Only the Slaughter property is currently out of business. Drive over and look at all the other businesses that would be forced to relocate. Cheshire Stone has been a super business in our area for what seems like forever. Try to imagine having to move all that inventory!
Bachman already has a DART Bus Storage Facility, as well as the Dry Gulch Garbage Transfer facility. It is unconscionable to consider another detrimental use within such a close proximity.
We have ONE CHANCE to get it right, Neighbors. A light rail storage facility needs to be located further away from residential / commercial uses. Please call, fax, write, yell & scream ?— do whatever it takes to stop this rail yard from being put in Bachman.
