European Crossroads applied for 'blanket' SUP for 6 locations

Feb 03, 2000

TO: CITY PLAN COMMISSIONERS February 3, 2000

Someone stated at the CPC briefing today that the Bachman Community must not have objection to the 'blanket' SUP for European Crossroads, since they were not all there protesting.

Please note that we were in communication with Commissioner Larry Wheat and were told that he would ask that the vote be tabled; therefore, I had told people in our community that it was not necessary that they make a trip downtown today. However, I did attend the briefing myself as a representative of the community.

We wish to make a clear statement that we do not support a blanket SUP (Specific Use Permit) for Commercial Amusement (inside) (required to legally utilize dance hall uses in CR zoning) for six locations inside European Crossroads.

We do support positive economic growth in our Bachman area. European Crossroads is in the mainstream of Bachman. Over the years, it has become an icon. We do support European Crossroads in their efforts to renovate and lease space to non-alcohol related businesses, for which we feel that they have been successful. We have been told that they have several new prospects as well, indicating that it should not be necessary to lease space to clubs / bars / taverns.

We have invited European Crossroads to prepare a brochure or packet about their businesses that could be passed out at our various neighborhood meetings, to let everyone know the many different businesses now located in this shopping center, thus promoting them and letting people know that European Crossroads is trying to work with the community to improve its image and to provide lease space for businesses that serve the needs and best interest of the neighborhood.

Some of the verbal information provided today was incorrect.

1) Someone stated that land was donated to the City for a Park. It was not. I believe the sales price was $380K for approximately 2.5 acres. We will have our first design meeting with Park & Rec this Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Park site (NW corner of Overlake at Community Drive).

2) Someone stated that the European Crossroads bars / clubs were using the Park for additional parking. They are not. The Park site has not been abused in any way since its purchase by the City from European Crossroads. They are using the parking lot on the NE corner of Overlake at Community. That lot (very large) is owned by European Crossroads. It backs up to a residential area, separated by an alley.

Neighboring properties, including my own, help us watch over the Park property. We are very excited to have it and look forward to its improvements, both on-site physically, and for the benefit of the community.

As always, we thank you for your time and for continuing to act in the best interest of our Bachman / Northwest Highway neighborhood.

It is on the agenda, but I will move to table it for at least 30 days or until I'm satisfied with staff responses.

Larry,

Please advise whether or not the blanket SUP application for European Crossroads has been officially postponed, or if it is still on the CPC Agenda for Thursday, 2-03-00.

Thanks,

Linda
