QUICK FACTS AND TIPS ABOUT LOVE FIELD

WHERE IS IT?
Love Field is about seven miles north of downtown Dallas and five miles from the InfoMart and World Trade Center.

WHAT IS IT?
Owned and operated by the City of Dallas, Love Field hosts five airlines – Southwest, American, Legend, Atlantic Southeast and Continental Express. On flights carrying more than 56 passengers, service from Love Field is limited to regional destinations – Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi – due to the Wright Amendment.

WHAT'S THE WRIGHT AMENDMENT?
Enacted to guarantee success for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the federal amendment originally stated that airlines flying out of Love could fly directly only to states contiguous to Texas. Later, Alabama, Mississippi and Kansas were added to the list. Passengers who wish to go beyond those points must buy a ticket to airports in those states, and then a separate ticket to their destination. In other words, if you want to fly from Love to, say, Baltimore, you must deplane in Houston, for example, and then re-board with a separate ticket.

AIRLINE WITH THE MOSTEST
Love Field is the headquarters for Southwest Airlines, the fourth largest U.S. airline in terms of domestic customers carried.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
The airport was named in memory of Lt. Moss Lee Love, a pilot killed in an airplane crash in California in 1913.

HOW OLD IS LOVE FIELD?
Dallas Love Field started life in 1917 as a World War I military training base. First air passenger service from Love Field took place September 17, 1927, destined for Chicago.

A LITTLE HISTORY
Charles Lindbergh arrived at Love Field in his Spirit of St. Louis on September 27, 1927.

FOR AVIATION FANS
Love houses the Frontiers of Flight aviation museum.

NEED TO MEET?
There's an on-site conference center that can outfit you with meeting space, computers, conference-call facilities and catering – all with 24 hours' notice.

HOW BIG IS LOVE?
It covers 1300 acres.

BUSY, BUSY
Approximately 7 million passengers use Love Field a year. The airport is one of the nation's largest joint air carrier/general aviation airports.
