Effective November 1st, 1999, June Kim-Edwards became the first Asian Chief Officer in the history of the Dallas Police Department.
The 44-year-old native of Seoul, South Korea was appointed to her new position in command of the Northwest Patrol Division on October 30th by Chief Terrell Bolton.
Chief Kim-Edwards holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Dallas Baptist University. She joined the Dallas Police Department in February, 1988.
She has served in Personnel, Intelligence and at the Central and Northwest Patrol Divisions. As commander at Northwest, she will be able to assist the growing population of Asians in the area.
Chief Kim-Edwards has been active in church and civic organizations as a member of the Korean Lions Club and as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Korean Central United Methodist Church in Irving.
She has conducted numerous seminars on crime prevention in the Korean community and has done extensive translation work for the Dallas Police Department and other agencies.
