Earlier this summer Michele Ream, Vice-Chair of the Neighborhood Association, applied for a youth employment grant from the Ward 6 Council Office. The purpose of the grant was to provide job opportunities and employment skills for area youth, as well as beautify the neighborhood. The Association was awarded the grant and the project began the beginning of September and was completed mid-October.
Youth from the area were hired and worked on various aspects of the project including such things as researching which paints to use, assisting with the permit process, producing this newsletter, seeking donations, surveying area residents, planning the public meeting and documenting the entire process, as well as the actual painting.
This project would not have been possible without the generous support of Pima Youth Partnership who served as our fiscal agent and provided the one million dollars worth of liability insurance needed. PYP has previously assisted the Neighborhood Association by providing technical assistance during the writing of our bylaws.
