FEEDING WILDLIFE IS DANGEROUS

Mar 18, 2003

A recent article in the Rocky Mountain News warned CO residents that feeding deer and elk might actually be killing them. The communal feeding areas help transmit diseases like tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease. The Division of Wildlife (DOW) has been struggling to educate people on why it has been made illegal to feed big game wildlife. The DOW has published the following guidelines: 1) do not feed deer or elk, 2) do not put salt blocks or heated water out for deer and elk, 3) report sick or dead deer and elk to the DOW so they can be tested for disease. Please show compassion for our wildlife friends and DON'T FEED THEM.
