How to create a preservation district

Since the November 21 Public Hearing where the Planning Commission approved the “Clifton Lofts” development
you have asked the Clifton Community Council to find a way to
stop demolition of Historic Homes and Limestone Walls throughout the Clifton neighborhood from the Chicken Steps to Billy Goat Hill
from the Hoerter property to the Hilltop Theatre
At your request, there will be a public information meeting on
Tuesday, December 3, 7-9 pm
Clifton Center, Community Room
to found out
“What we need to do to create a
Clifton Preservation District”?
Joanne Weeter, Historic Preservation Officer, City of Louisville,
will present the program and walk us through the steps.

What are the steps to become a Preservation District?
Step 1: neighborhood will -
petition with 200+ signatures of Clifton ‘residents’
digital image of each fa?§ade (1450 Clifton addresses)
$1500 application fee
Step 2: Landmarks will -
conduct designation study
prepare a survey of structures and properties, findings of fact
recommend district boundaries
schedule a Landmarks Commission public hearing
Step 3: after Commission votes in favor
committee of residents and staff is created to draft guidelines
specific for Clifton
