Our Belmont Heights neighborhood uniquely captures the spirit of its vibrant past. 96% of Heights homes were estimated to have been built during the first half of the last century, with the first residence of record built in 1902! Our neighborhood truly reflects the positive spirit that characterized the establishment of our beach community more than ninety years ago!
In response to a growing interest among the area's residents to preserve the charm and unique architecture of our neighborhood, the BHCA is currently exploring the concept of obtaining historical designation status.
Historical designation is a function of the City's Cultural Heritage Commission, which grants the status after a formal survey process, a procedure that begins usually as a grassroots effort by neighborhood residents and organizations (such as the BHCA), and continues under the direction of the Neighborhood and Historic Preservation Officer. Most recently, the areas of Rose Park and California Heights have witnessed new levels of pride in their vintage neighborhoods after successfully completing the historical designation process.
You can help! To volunteer and participate in the process, contact the BHCA at (562) 223-0996, or e-mail us through this site. To learn more, simply attend our next Board Meeting (check the calendar of events section of this site).
