The time was before jet planes would make routine flights overhead but after major roads were paved and Highways 71, 69 and 169 intersected the southwest corner of Clay County, MO., that farmland was developed into a new lifestyle and called the SUBURBS.
With the ending of World War II in 1946 and military servicemen becoming veterans, the world expanded in all directions and the modern phase was in demand. The Automobile was becoming the convenient way to travel. Moving to the SUBURBS required good transportation as this was the only way to travel to work or shopping. Expansion of the Auto Industry was a small instrument in the modern process with hiring young men, as well as supplying that most important new car. In the 1950's the impact for housing was met by men with great expectations and land owners willing to sell acres of farm land. Young families were ready to spread their wings to new surroundings and encouraged to take advantage of the Government GI Loans for Veterans of WWII.
A brilliant man in his 50's, came from Fort Scott, Kansas with sons to form the construction Company known as H & I Builders. This was Ira Bolling and sons, Glen L and Howard L. Bolling who developed the first housing area to be called “BOLLING HEIGHTS”.

In early 2006, Gladstone city staff held several meetings with Bolling Heights residents to discuss property maintenance, code enforcement, crime and safety issues in their neighborhood. Staff encouraged residents to participate in a pilot project to improve their neighborhood by working with a community development consultant to organize a neighborhood association.
In July, 2006, several residents volunteered to serve on the first neighborhood board, and so much has been accomplished since then!
We look forward to you becoming part of our Bolling Heights Community Link, our community neighborhood association. The benefits of becoming part of our association are:
Excellent opportunities to meet your neighbors by volunteering with Beautification, Special Projects, Block Watch/Safety, Newsletter and History Committees. We always have a need for volunteers to assist with lawn clean-up for those who need help, ideas for our holiday special events and a need for Block Watch Captains.
Thanks to our Special Projects Committee, fun social gatherings such as our annual Halloween Parade and Holiday Decorating Contest have been a big hit. Also planned is a Independence Day parade, adoption of a Bolling Heights Street, participation in the Gladfest parade and other special project events. We are coming up with new ideas all the time! The Committee also assembles “New Neighbor Bags” to welcome new residents to the Bolling Heights Community.
Our neighborhood newsletter, The Link, is distributed monthly by volunteers and contains articles including upcoming meetings, history and future of Bolling Heights, resident profiles and other information important to our community.
The Beautification Committee participates in the Spring and Fall Clean-up in conjunction with Gladstone’s yard waste disposal, to help our neighbors who need assistance with yard work and hauling leaves, clippings, and limbs. We hope to participate in the bulk item pickup in conjunction with Gladstone’s Spring Clean-up (held in April) as we gain more volunteers and more trucks for hauling.
Our Block Watch/Safety program has done an amazing job in the short time our association has been formed. As of this writing, we have 12 Block Watch signs installed, and a fund started for additional signs. Through Block Watch Captains, the Block Watch Coordinator is able to keep them informed of safety issues, and the Captains, in turn, are responsible for maintaining rosters, watching for suspicious activity, routinely checking on neighbors and delivery of “New Neighbor” gift bags.
The History Committee has been researching Bolling Heights history and will be publishing the results this fall.
Official board elections are held in February. We have new members and new officers with new ideas.
Twenty-five (25) residents participated in a half-day neighborhood assessment given by on April 21st which will create a plan to guide the neighborhood for the next five years. The Plan is on the City of Gladstone's website.

Forming our Bolling Heights Community Link was a major accomplishment for our neighborhood. With the help of volunteers who are generously giving their time and energy to our Board, various committees and special events, Bolling Heights has become a better place to live! We have gotten acquainted with our neighbors and take the time to help each other!
WELCOME TO BOLLING HEIGHTS!
