1796 Bray Place/Bashford Manor B&B area history

Located at the north terminus of Bashford Manor Lane, (2227 Bashford Manor Lane), this National Landmark was built by Revolutionary War Major Samuel Bray and wife Nancy, both from Virginia. Kentucky was then a county of Virginia and saw the last of Indian presence in the 1790's. Bray was appointed survey details in 1783 by William Fleming under appointment by Governor Thomas Jefferson. The surveyed land tracts were used as payment for service in the War according to rank. Neighboring farms reflect this for the Speed and Hikes families and their land holdings. Samuel Bray received 210 acres bounded by Bardstown Road, Goldsmith Lane and Hikes Lane. All of this falls within the Bon Air Neighborhood.
