Bonnie Brae Neighborhood

"Dear Neighbors"

Feb 26, 2004

Our biggest need right now is for volunteers to help take over the BBNA board positions. When I agreed to be President, it was on a temporary basis, since I have been on the board in some capacity since moving here in 1988. We have many new households and we need new energized people on the board who want to make a difference. Please consider giving me a call and joining the cause. I think it is important to try to keep the association going!

Update at the Park?— Before Winter, we did get the benches varnished and some pruning done. In the Spring, we hope to get replacement trees planted, and also will be closing off some of the grassy area to re-seed. Depending on Denver Water, we hope to get flowers again this year. Please take care of, and enjoy, your wonderful park!

Mark you calendars now for the 2004 Bonnie Brae annual picnic. This year, we will make some changes. Due to weather challenges, we have decided to move the picnic date back a little. This year it will be August 22, and we are giving early notice! We are looking into having a bag-piper or possibly the Denver Concert Band that was scheduled last year. We want to focus on all the new kids, too.

This Winter has not been too bad, but it has been dry, so I hope you are watering your trees and shrubs that need your kind attention! You can also get free mulch the first weekend in May at Veterans Park .

Poptops ?— Walk over to South Bonnie Brae, or around our own neighborhood. Is the character of our neighborhood changing?? Very large homes that take up much of their lots?… often no room for backyards or trees?… much different than the homes built originally in this community. Some say it helps property values and is ?“progress?”. For the most part, it cannot be stopped, unless the laws change. The BBNA Board supports the ?“Quick Wins?” legislation passed in late 2002 to help address these concerns. It is a step in the right direction, but still not enough. BBNA now has a Zoning sub-committee, and we have reported some construction that did not meet code, forcing some plans to be re-drawn. We can only provide input on variances and appeals.

Traffic Flow ?— I am still trying to get more speed limit visibility on Steele, Mississippi and Bonnie Brae Blvd. The city resists putting in more stop signs. I have a few volunteers to hold signs during rush hours to slow down, but need a few more. I hope we can do this when weather warms up.
