PRESIDENT'S REPORT:

New President-Introduction and Comments:My name is Arthur Pellegrini. My wife and I live at 6882 Oakfair Avenue. I have lived in Brookside Woods for 16 years. Unfortunately, for me, my predecessor Mark Gresham did such an outstanding job that my performance is likely to be viewed as deficient by comparison. Mark, I salute you.

This community (as any community) should provide its residents with tranquility and safety. I believe our tranquility is in great danger. If the OSU Airport expansion goes forward, we will be subjected to a greater amount and higher intensity of noise. Children and teenagers will be less safe. While I was living in San Diego, a small plane doing pilot training exercises struck, and knocked out of the sky, a landing jet. At least 2 schools are in the flight path of jets landing at OSU Airport. Certainly, road congestion from airport traffic will increase. What will the quality of life here be like when 161 West looks like 161 East? There are other considerations, but enough.

I, as my predecessors, will pay attention to crime. I will direct my efforts to curb vandalism. I will try to find measures that could deter other crimes such as property crimes that may not be committed by individuals from our community. Lastly, I will encourage increased community interaction for those who are interested in getting to know their neighbors better.

We have a great list of Board volunteers this year, with one very important opening. Anyone interested in serving as the Blockwatch Board Member or on the Blockwatch Committee, please contact me or Trina Dunlap at 761-1457.

PARK CLEANUP DAY:

We are planning a Fall Cleanup of our entrances and of the Maplebrook Civic Park. Everyone is welcome and your help will be greatly appreciated. We will meet at the Maplebrook Civic Park (at the corner of Maplebook Lane and Oakfair Avenue) at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1st, and we will appreciate as much time as you can spend with us! If you cannot join us at 8:00 a.m., please feel free to join us when your time permits and please bring a rake. Note: Rain date is set for Sunday, November 9th.

Please contact Sue Downey at 766-5421 if you need additional information or have any suggestions to make the day a success.

NEIGHBORS CONCERNS:

Please do not put any grass clippings, vegetation or trash down the storm sewers. This debris may cause storm water to backup and flooding in our streets. Also, do not dump your yard waste on adjoining property (i.e. Brookside Woods Country Club). Yard waste should be placed in paper bags (available at Andersons General Store or Big Bear) or containers marked ?“Yard Waste?” and it will be picked up on Columbus trash collection days.

TREASURER'S REPORT:

It is time to start collecting membership dues for our 2003/2004 Fiscal Year. Please find attached to this newsletter, an envelope for you to mail your membership dues to our Post Office Box. You can also enclose any Neighborhood Directory updates that you may have in this envelope. We plan on publishing our new directory in November. Please include your e-mail address with your updates. We may use e-mail for our Blockwatch communications.

Your support and involvement in the Association is greatly appreciated! Mark Gresham

Brookside Woods Women?’s Club:

It is officially fall, and the Brookside Woods Women?’s Club is ready to kick off a fun-filled year! A lot of new neighbors have moved into our neighborhood, and we extend a special invitation to them to join us for our first meeting of the year. For anyone who may not be familiar with BWWC and what we do, our mission is simply to provide an opportunity for women in the neighborhood to get to know one another and socialize by meeting once a month for dinner at area restaurants. Most meetings feature a program or speaker, and we also do occasional activities such as going to a ?“chick flick.?” You do not have to be a Brookside Woods resident to attend or join BWWC, so invite your friends outside of the neighborhood to join us if you like. Also, we have wonderful Brookside Woods ?“alumni?” ?– former neighbors attending our meetings, with whom we can stay in touch!

We have a fabulous schedule of meetings for the 2003-04 Club year (see below.) Please join us for a bar-b-que buffet at Hoggy?’s Polaris for our first meeting of the year on October 14th. We will have fun games, prizes, and a strolling magician to entertain us during dinner. Come catch up with neighbors who you maybe have not seen for a while and help welcome our new neighbors to Brookside Woods.

We will be collecting dues payments of $15 for the Club year at the first meeting, or you can send your payment to Treasurer Denise Badgley, 1503 Thistlewood. Also, for the first time we are selling advertising space in our BWWC Directory, which will be distributed after our November meeting. Anyone who wishes to advertise their business or services should e-mail Denise Badgley at dbadgley@columbus.rr.com.

It is my privilege and honor to again serve as BWWC President, and I am grateful to work with a dedicated Board including Vice President Gloria Williams, Secretary Barb Johnson, and Treasurer Denise Badgley. Please contact me with any questions: home 761-3175, work 228-5822, e-mail robbinsfair@yahoo.com, 7155 Lakebrook Blvd. On behalf of BWWC, I wish everyone a safe and happy fall, and GO BUCKS! Pamela Fair, President
