PRESIDENTS REPORT:

The Brookside Woods Civic Association Board met November 3rd. As the new President and least informed member, I was impressed by the quality of the Board. I was also surprised by how much is going on that I was unaware of. How many of you know that a used automotive superstore, CarMax is going to be located at Sawmill and I-270? I did not, but there is a lot I don't know. Regarding the airport, a Worthington group has been formed to oppose the expansion. Their website is www.woose.org. The airport website is www.osuairport.org. For those residents with a long-term commitment to Brookside Woods, I believe, it is very important to understand the issues of the OSU airport expansion. We should make our views known (pro or con) to city officials and the OSU board of trustees. I was walking my dog early November 2nd. Splattered pumpkins and dead mailboxes (fortunately few in number) decorated our neighborhood. I hope police reports were made. If you are a victim of any crime, please contact Officer Standley @ 645-1417. Our website is www.neighborhoodlink.com/columbus.brooksidewoods. Lots of information about our neighborhood is available on-line. We are hoping to utilize a feature of this website called ?“Meet your Neighbor?” where you can post information about your family and your hobbies. We still need a Blockwatch Captain. This position should not involve much time. The Blockwatch Captain is an important resource for this community. Please contact any Brookside Woods Board member if you are interested.The Board is aware of the neighbors?’ concerns regarding the lighting, bench and table at the Maplebrook Civic Park. We plan to buy a new bench and hope to make a more permanent solution to the flag light glare.

To date, 123 families have paid their dues and officially joined the BWCA. Over 34% of these families also contributed to our Capital Fund. Thank you! You will receive a post card indicating that your dues have been received.
Below you will find our budget as approved at the November 3, Board Meeting. In order to execute this budget, and provide services to our community, we need to have the remaining families send in their $50 dues. On the next page you will find the Membership Drive Form. Please send the form and your check to the address on the front of this newsletter.

PARKS REPORT:

We tried two different dates for park cleanup this fall. Neither was well attended, so not much was accomplished. Weather permitting; we may try to schedule another session later this fall. Watch for signs in the Maplebrook Civic Park and at the North entrance for dates and times. A special thanks goes to Mark Gresham for his continued work on the parks.

We have received two donations of $100 each for a permanent bench in the Maplebrook Civic Park and another donation of $500 for a bench in the City Park. The cost for a permanent, weather-resistant bench that can be bolted down is approximately $500. If anyone is interested in adding to the $200 that has already been donated, please contact one of the Board Members
listed in this newsletter.

Our goal for this next year is to continue to improve the Maplebrook Civic Park by adding a wooden park sign, finding a more permanent solution to the glare from the flag light, planting additional shrubs and flowers and purchasing and installing permanent benches. To accomplish these goals we need everyone?’s help. Please help us make our common areas the showcase that we all want to see by donating your time and/or money to help maintain our parks.


FAR NORTHWEST COALITION REPORT:

The Far Northwest Coalition (FNWC) met on August 27, 2003 at the Northwest Library. Members present of the FNWC Board were John Best, John Murley, Kelly Thompson and Rich Herner. This was not a quorum to conduct full business.

John Best advised the group that the CarMax application for rezoning, that the FNWC had initially opposed but had later given conditional support to after much negotiation, had been recommended for approval by the Development Commission. It was also noted that the FNWC had heard several zoning issues of late around Snouffer, Caine and Farmers Drive and that all should help enhance the local area there.

The Refectory is a unique restaurant housed in a lovely 19th century church building and adjacent schoolhouse. White linen tablecloths and candlelight complete the intimate ambiance. We?’ll take the opportunity to dress, and most men will wear a coat and tie. Business attire is most appropriate.

There will be a cash bar at 6:30 pm for one hour. Some assorted treats will be passed around during the cocktail hour.

At 7:30 pm we will be seated and start with Mushrooms in a puffed pastry, salad, then a CHOICE OF:

Pan Seared Red Snapper in a Dijon cream sauce OR
Chicken Fricassee (Breast with wing drumstick)

Individual Assorted dessert sampler with coffee or tea.

Dinner, including tax and tip, will be $40.00 per person.
