Parks Report

SPRING CLEANUP - A SUCCESSFUL EVENT: We would like to thank all of our wonderful neighbors who gave up their Saturday and tireless effort to make our Park at Oakfair Avenue & Maplebrook Lane a serene place of blooming trees and greenery. First and foremost we would like to thank: Sue Boyd; Dave Brehm; Sue Downey; Scott Fair; Mark, Louis, John and Krista Gresham; Joe Lorenz; Rick Gutter; Bill Norris; Donna Schrodt; Alan Shultz; Tom and Jacob Steyer; Tom and Linda Tenwalde (who also donated the picnic table to our park); Frank Ulle; and Bill Weidner.

And special thanks to our corporate sponsors Todd Strawsburg of Mule Stump Removal ( phone 937-834-2672, mobile 937-313-2245) who removed sixteen stumps in the park for free. This saved the association over $500.00; and to Craig Schweitzer of Mr. Mulch (792-8686) who provided special pricing on the topsoil and mulch for the park. This saved us over $500.00.

RECREATION PLAYGROUND PROGRAM IS RETURNING: We have been selected by the Columbus Recreation and Parks to be one of the Recreation Playground Programs this summer. It will be staffed Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. It will start June 16 and run through August 8. Our Park will be staffed by recreation leaders who provide a safe, wholesome and fun place for children to play. A variety of activities are offered including games, kickball, arts and crafts, track and field, music, drama and several special events. For questions please call Recreation Programs Information at 645-3334. Only by having high participation, will we be able to keep this program. USE IT OR LOOSE IT!

PARK IMPROVEMENT FUND: The park?’s committee is currently looking at the proposed design of the new playground, if you are interested in helping with this project , please contact Lanna Shawgo @766-8204 or Amy Gresham @ 889-2891. There are three items the Parks Committee felt would be beneficial to our Park. These include a soccer net, more benches and a drinking fountain. These items will need to be funded by private sources. As our second fund raising event, the Brookside Woods Park Committee is holding a raffle with all proceeds going to the Park Improvement Fund. The Grand Prize is:

1st Prize-6 tickets to a Columbus Crew Game &
Private Crew Stadium tour with International Soccer star Mike Lapper
