In attendance: Steve Hoyt (SEUL), Lee Perlman (Hollywod Star) and BCA Board members Lily Witham, Bethany Pratt, Seann McKeel, Jim Andrews, Ann Bowling, Gilly Burlingham and Susan Lindsay.
WAMO- Susan Lindsay Stated that she feels that Larry Dully’s plain to fast track sales of the WAMO parcels jeopardizes the school building itself. Susan suggested that the BCA board send a letter to Larry Dully and the School Board Trust voicing our concerns that the plan to separate the existing building from vacant parcels places the original school building at risk. Jim Andrews made the motion to send the letter, which was seconded by Bethany Pratt, and received a unanimous vote by the board.
Minutes approved- the minutes from May 12, 2005 were approved with noted changes. Jim Andrews voted to approve the minutes, with a second by Seann McKeel, and a unanimous vote.
Buckman Pool Update- Lily Witham will post a Buckman Pool situation update on the Buckman website.
Treasurer’s Report- Ann Bowling gave the treasurer’s report. There is a balance of $70 left in the budget. After some discussion it was agreed that Ann shall purchase a Kinko’s card to be used for copying.
Board Elections- There are 4 seats available in the upcoming election, which will be held at the General Meeting on June 9th. The seats held by Ann Bowling and Lily Witham are up for renewal.
SEPAC Meeting- A board member is needed to attend the SEPAC meeting on Community Policing. It is held once a month at 7:30AM at the Eastbank Saloon. Susan asked Seann McKeel to attend the June meeting.
Mt. St. Joseph’s- there will be a hearing on July 8th as Farmington center (new owners of St. Joe’s) seek to have a zoning change to a Type 3 Land Use. A number of groups are in opposition to the change.
Bridgehead Report- Update given by Jim Andrews. AFRIEND is very frustrated that the PDC will apparently hear the BEAM appeal of the PDC developer choice.
Vanishing Bus benches- Lily Witham has received several phone calls complaining about the bus benches that were taken for the Morrison Plaza project at SE 14th & Morrison, and the recent removal of a bench at SE 16th & Burnside. She will call Tri-Met to find out why this has happened.
Endangered Trees- After the loss of 5 Red Maples on SE Morrison Street last month, there has been a lot of discussion on ways to prevent the wholesale chopping down of healthy trees. Joseph Brostoff of SEUL has had discussions with Portland Parks & Recreation about sending notices to neighbourhoods when trees are scheduled for removal. Parks reportedly does not want to do this, so Joseph suggested that the notices be sent to SEUL, and the appropriate person on staff will notify the neighbourhoods to be affected. Parks agreed to do so.
