BUCKMAN POOL

Those present regarding plans, status and history:

Joe Meyer, parent of students and users gave brief history of the pool.

MATT GRUMM, Comm. Saltzman?¢???™s Office.

PAM BROWN and JUSTIN DEVERS, Portland Public Schools.

JANET BEBB and RICHARD BOSCH, Parks and Recreation.

Janet Bebb made presentation regarding the Buckman Pool and handed out literature on the various proposal options for fixing the pool. She mentioned that Parks is involved with this project because of its extensive experience in dealing with pools in Portland city parks. She urged Buckman Heroes to take part in any of the upcoming meetings regarding the pool.

Richard Bosch presented a proposed schedule of renovation. Discussed public safety and structural issues and leak analysis commissioned by PPS. He thinks the standing water/leak study should be ready with a report within about 4 weeks. He would like to see the project declared as an emergency and get it done! Questions were taken and answered from attendees

Lily Witham volunteered to work with P&R to put together a workshop during the first week of August. It would meet Aug 4, 6:30-8, immediately following the BCA Board Meeting (6-6:30) at Central Catholic.

BCA SECRETARY POSITION

Lily moved that Anne Hughes take over as BCA Secretary with Brianne as backup. Susan seconded. Vote unanimous to accept the resolution. Lily will continue with the website.

CEIC MEETING REPORT

Susan Lindsay attended the CEIC meeting. There was a discussion of the expansion of the CEIC district boundary eastward to encompass the WAMO site. CEIC also looking at the possibility of expanding its boundary into the Brooklyn neighborhood to include the Ross Island Sand and Gravel area and to include the area of Sandy Blvd up to NE 20th. They discussed the homeless issue in the area and the North-South trolley system plans. 2 public meetings being planned for fall regarding extension of CEIC area. To let entire city know what?¢???™s going on. 

M?¢???™Lou Christ expressed concerns about creating new jobs in CEIC area and suggested that the new PDC commissioners and staff come to CEIC and BCA meetings.

CRIME

Susan Linday reported people are loitering and camping on the Pierre?¢???™s Bakery block. She filed nuisance complaint and talked to president of US Baking Co which owns the building. Susan is concerned that St. Francis is not banning the campers and loitering across the street from the Dining Hall.

No officer present. Anne Hughes will attend meeting with Commander Rosie Sizer to interview NERT replacement for Officer McMurray. 

Central Catholic School showed photos of man who has come into the school and stolen purses and other objects.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC HVAC PROBLEM

Chris Marston, a neighbor of CC, gave report of meeting of Neighbors and CC. He says the neighbors expressed that Central Catholic is not involved in the neighborhood and does not understand the problems posed by the school. He says that the noise from the HVAC system is a real problem. 900 students and staff come into the neighborhood to CC every day. The neighbors expressed that the noise is still a problem no matter what CC has done (baffles, etc.). He expressed frustration as did the CC staff. Another meeting will be arranged with the neighbors and staff at CC at which CC will report back on progress.

LONE FIR CEMETARY

The building on the site is scheduled to be torn down soon.

NEIGHBOR to NEIGHBOR PROBLEM

Judith, neighbor, expressed concern with problem neighbor. Suggestions on how to deal with problem offered by other neighbors.

BIG BOX ISSUE

M?¢???™Lou Christ reported on her meetings with 3 Metro commissioners. She will meet with City Council on Wednesday morning at 9:30. She is ?¢???œtrying to get whole region to get on the ball on this issue?¢??? and wants to see a ?¢???œpreemptive strike before these Big Boxes come in?¢???. The Monte Carlo blocks are potential locations for Big Box retailers.
