Building A Healthier Mesa

Building a BHM Cardboard Community

Sep 29, 1999

BHM has been invited to participate in next year's Mesa Day Festivities, March 4, 2000. The cardboard main street was such a success at Golden Rule Main Street USA during the 1999 Mesa Day that we now have an opportunity to build an even bigger cardboard community!

Nearly a dozen large donated refrigerator boxes were used to create the Main Street USA cardboard community last Spring. The youth groups that worked on the project used giant markers to draw doors and windows; fabric was applied for window curtains; and each box was transformed into a variety of buildings including a stereo store, library, school and more. Kids of all ages enjoyed going in and out of the ?“real life?” doors and peering out the windows. They also had a chance to add their own finishing touches to the community.

The coming Mesa Day event offers an excellent opportunity for neighborhood groups to participate by creating their own unique "neighborhood". It?’s not too early to start planning. To get involved contact Liz at 480-834-2123.
