Association Bylaws Revised
Dues Increased to $40

The Park Forest Association?’s Bylaws were revised by a membership vote at the association?’s annual meeting on Thursday, November 6, 2008. Changes were made in the following sections:

n Article III, Section 1(B) A renter may vote at the annual meeting if he or she has a written letter from the property owner presented to the secretary at least 24 hours before the vote. (Time previously had been four hours.)
n Article III, Section I?© Only one individual from the same residence may serve as an officer or director during any term. (Previously had said any time.)
n Article IV. Adds Section 2, specifying that bi-annual meetings shall be held on the first Thursday of May and the first Thursday of November each year.
n Article V, Section 1 There shall be seven directors of the association. (Previously there had been nine.)
n Article VI, Section 1 Regular meetings of the board of directors shall be held monthly on the third Thursday. (Previously had been the third Tuesday.)

Association members present also voted to increase the yearly dues from $25 to $40. This is the first dues increase in several years and is necessitated by the increased cost of services such as snow plowing and unpaid dues from 50 households. The annual mailing will go out next month, but you can pay your dues now by using the coupon at the end of this newsletter.


Board Adds Three Positions

Three new positions were added to the Park Forest Association Board at the annual meeting, and two new people were elected to fill them. In addition, the current officers were re-elected. Following is a list of board members:

President, Billie Samec: Billie is a retired Fort Wayne Community Schools speech pathologist. She has lived in Park Forest since 1973 and likes the friendly atmosphere. She has two grown children and enjoys scrapbooking and making greeting cards. Billie lives at 3934 Stanton Drive. Her phone number is 485-9078.

Vice President, Steve Blair: Steve has lived in Park Forest since 1994. He enjoys meeting people while walking or biking in the neighborhood. Steve lives at 5426 Lawford Lane. His phone number is 486-8306.

Secretary, Mary Bordner: Mary has lived in Park Forest since 2005. She loves the friendly attitude of the neighborhood and wants to meet more neighbors. Mary lives at 4023 Stanton Drive. Her phone number is 492-4176.

Treasurer, Colleen Richter: Colleen has lived in Park Forest since 1975. She recently retired from a 30-year teaching career and is looking forward to traveling and learning how to quilt. Colleen lives at 3811 Hedwig Drive. Her phone number is 485-0408.

Shawn Baker: Shawn is a test engineer with BAE Systems. He volunteers with the Study Connection and the USO through his company?’s charity partner. Shawn lives at 4016 Vineland Drive. His e-mail address is sbake4twenty@Yahoo.com.

Janet Green: Janet has lived in Park Forest since 1986. She has two grown children and enjoys gardening and quilting. Janet lives at 4031 Stanton Drive. Her phone number is 485-4858.

The board is currently considering candidates to fill the seventh position.


Winter Safety Alert

Residents should be aware that it is not legal to operate snowmobiles in private additions such as Park Forest. Also, please be sure to shovel the sidewalk in front of your house when it snows.


Trash Pickup Information

Trash pickup in Park Forest is usually on Wednesdays except for holiday weeks. Recycling is picked up on alternate weeks. Use your brown bin for paper, cardboard, and fiberboard items. Use the yellow bin for aluminum cans, glass containers, and plastic containers. Do not use the bins for styrofoam cartons or aerosol cans.

Our northeast area advocate and City Council member can assist with neighborhood issues such as code enforcement, parking violations, and animal control if the Park Forest Association is unable to assist. Please do not contact them unless you have first gone to the Park Forest Association to try to have your problem resolved.


Good Neighbors Recognized

Good neighbors help to make Park Forest a pleasant place to live. Here are four examples of such people:

Jim Huhn on Stanton Drive helps his neighbors with lawn mowing and takes care of their mail and newspapers when they are away.

Rick Ensley on Vineland Drive removes snow for his neighbors and assists them in other ways during the year.

Jan Hawley on Stanton Drive shares soups and casseroles with her neighbors.

Kathy Young on Stanton Drive takes food to sick people and shares her skills in sewing, quilting, and embroidering with her neighbors.

You can be a good neighbor by asking elderly neighbors if they need any assistance. If you?’d like to nominate a good neighbor for recognition in The Forrester, contact Billie Samec or one of the other board members.


Volunteers Needed

The Park Forest Association is looking for volunteers to help with the annual pool party and garden walk, both of which are tentatively scheduled for June, and to help distribute the newsletter, which is usually published quarterly. If you?’d like to volunteer, contact any board member.

Volunteers are also needed to serve as block captains to gather news of the neighborhood and inform the board when residents move into or out of the neighborhood. If you?’d like to volunteer to serve as a block captain, contact Billie Samec.
