NORTH AVENUE BUSINESSES
JOIN FORCES FOR SUCCESSUFUL HOLIDAY EVENT

North Avenue Merchants from North 7th to 35th Streets Host 1st Annual Merchant Holiday Sale

(Milwaukee)—Borrowing the principle of “Cooperative Economics” and “Collective Work” from Kwanzaa, Campaign Neighborhood/CFNBA and the Leadership Merchants Team of Historic North Avenue engaged the citizenry in their 1st Annual Merchant Holiday Sale, December 10th & 11th.

The Leadership Merchants Team consisted of:
* Advance Auto – 15th & North
* Phil’s United Auto – 19th & North
* Auto Parts – 19th & North * Popeye’s – 24th & North
* Irgens Development – 27th & North
* Village Valet – 32nd & North
* Love’s Liquor – 29th & North
* Subway – 35th & North
* North Avenue Clothing – 21-22Nd & North
* Wendy’s – 7th & North

Even though the first day greeted shoppers with rain and the second day blustery winds, there was shopping; and, this year’s Santa made his rounds. This year’s hired Santa, Randy Hart, is a Veteran from Vets Place Central.

SANTA
Santa was truly a “hit”. He was stationary for two-hour timeframes at Popeye’s, 24th & North and Subway, 35th & North.

He drew honks from horns, waves by travelers, smiles by merchants, grown-ups and children. He was accompanied by Mary Glass, Chair/CEO of Campaign Neighborhood – CFNBA and Special Moment by Jackie Photography. Photos w/Santa were taken of children, grown-up, staff and merchant owners. The photos will be shared in upcoming editions of The Bulletin Newsletter and the 2005 Business Directory.

RADIO ADS
For this event, WNOV-860 was selected to provide radio advertisements. Sixty-second ads were played Wednesday-Saturday, December 8-11th, to promote the event. WNOV provided announcements that were upbeat and seasonal for the event.

CITY LIGHTS ON BY 4:00pm
“We are pleased that the staff of the Department of Public Works delivered as promised city lights by 4:00pm both days.” “The lights help to provide four additional hours per day of SALE opportunity for our merchants and shoppers.” “The day is dark by 4:00pm many days and North Avenue is pitch dark in some areas of our merchants.” “The darkness is a deterrent to shopping.”

“We will be in touch with Alderman Willie Hines – 15h District and Alderman Michael McGee – 6th District for a Resolution for Daylight Saving Time Street Lights each day starting at 4:00pm,” said Mary Glass, Chair/CEO, Campaign Neighborhood - CFNBA.
