PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Dear Neighbors,

Summer is here, the rains have started, the grass is growing and CONA is moving forward. It's great being a citizen of St. Petersburg. At the July 18th board meeting we have three speakers lined up. One of the speakers will be Susan Rebollit of Northshore Neighborhood Association. She will talk about a new Historic Preservation Group. They have already started meeting and want to get your participation. The second speaker will be Doug Linder from the YMCA. He will give a presentation on the YMCA and it?’s new building. He will be inviting everyone to a tour of the new YMCA facility on July 21st from 9:00am until 1:00pm. I was given a tour on Monday July 9th and I was very surprised with how nice the new facility looks. This is going to be an asset to our city and with it being so close to the center of St. Petersburg makes it available to all of the neighborhoods. Our third quest is from Boyd Hill Nature Park. They are planning an open house and picnic on July 28th and everybody is welcome. It will be from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. Hope to see you there.

This year we are holding the Annual National Night Out on August 7th at Woodlawn Park from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The St. Petersburg Police Department sponsors this event. I would like to encourage everyone to attend to show his or her support.

Now for all of you that want to be President of CONA next year, the Nominating Committee is looking for candidates. As some of you might know and for those who don?’t, I will not available for the position next year. If you are interested in running please make sure you consider the time it takes. Anyone with a full time job would find it almost impossible to make the CONA meetings, City committee meetings, Council meetings and the other things that need done. As City Council Members will tell you, it is a part time job on paper but it is a full time job if you want to do it right. The second thing you need to consider and I know some people might have a problem with is YOUR OPINION BECOMES WHATEVER THE COUNCIL OF NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS VOTE FOR. And as the spokesperson for CONA, your job is to support all these issues. If you meet these two requirements the nominating committee is looking for you. See you at the Board meeting

Your Neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
