CONA Board Meeting
June 20 - 7:00P.M.
St. Petersburg Times Building
490 1st Avenue South
PRESIDENT'S REPORT:
Dear Neighbors,
The 2020 Vision meetings were very well attended, Bob Jefferys and Tim Clemmons did a great job. This is what we need to see more of, City Staff and the Neighborhoods working together. On June 27th there will be a 2020 Vision Presentation at the Bayfront Center by the 2020 Vision group. We all need to attend see what all our hard work has produced.
I attended a meeting last week on curbside mailboxes. I am glad to say that our MAYOR agrees with us that there shouldn?’t be any more curbside mailboxes. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with one of our Neighborhood Association Presidents who wanted his neighbor?’s to be able to keep their curbside mailboxes if they wanted too. He said that the neighborhood has never voted on the issue but he doesn?’t want to make anyone mad by enforcing the law.
Starting this month the Mayor and I have agreed to meet monthly. At these monthly meetings Neighborhood Association Vice Presidents and myself will meet with the mayor and Mike Dove. If you feel something needs to be brought up at one of these meeting tell our Vice Presidents, so we can address it at a meeting. I hope that this will be the start of a new and better working relationship between the City and CONA.
On Saturday, June 9th, I attended the Lake Maggiore Sores Neighborhood Association Picnic. It was a great picnic and everyone had a nice time. Bernice Darling is not only a good President, but she can sing too. The following Saturday I will be at the North Kenwood Neighborhood Association Picnic, they always have a nice turnout. I hope that some of you start attending these neighborhood picnics and events, to see what other neighborhoods are doing.
The City is looking for a new Police Chief. I have made a strong request that at least one member of the board interviewing the applicants, comes from the neighborhoods. I feel strongly that we need a neighborhood presence in the selection of a new chief. We need to make sure that the next Chief shares our view of CPO?’s, Traffic control, and how to get Drugs out of our neighborhoods and schools. I can?’t stress how important this is to your neighborhood.
At the CONA Board meeting on June 20th an old friend is coming to see you. He will be our Mystery Guest. We will also talk about the Airport proposals. See you there!
Your Neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
