COMPUTERS FOR OUR COMMUNITY
CONA, in partnership with an impressive list of other organ-
izations throughout our city, has developed a project to
collect and recycle used computers. COMPUTERS FOR
OUR COMMUNITY (CFOC) has collected hundreds of
donated used computers and is currently refurbishing these
machines. The machines will be distributed to individuals
and organizations who otherwise would not have access to
a computer. As part of the distribution process, we are pro-
viding training so that recipients of these machines will be
able to use them effectively. This is a growing and exciting
project that will produce very tangible benefits for St. Peter-
sburg. If you would like to get involved in this project

Presidents Report

Dear Neighbors,

CONA?’s first Town Meeting for 2000 was held on May 3rd. At this meeting City Council Members answering questions from the audience and it turned out to be a great success. The Council Members answered all question but two that were asked of them. The two questions that were not answered could not be answered do to the Sunshine Law. The first question and probability the most important one asked was "Did the City Council Members give any weight to a Neighborhood Associations even though most associations represent less than 10% of the residents in any given area." All the Council Members answer YES, which goes to show you we do make an impact. The Council Members were thanked for coming out and sharing their time and views with everyone.

I would like to give special thanks to the Membership Committee for doing a great job on short notice. I learned that one of our neighborhood associations was thinking about disbanding and was having probability, they?’re last meeting. The Membership Committee, on short notice, attended the meeting and persuaded the association to continue. This committee could use some more members, if you are available please see Charlie Miller at the Next Board meeting.

We now have two CONA Vision meetings going at the same time. The meeting with Mike Dove is at city hall, on the first Tuesday of every month and starts at 5:30. Tim Clemmons group also meets once a month and the meetings are posted on the website.

The Police Department has a new way of informing the Neighborhood Associations on what is going on in their neighborhoods. At the May Board meeting the Police Department will present this new program to us all.

Have you looked at the CONA website lately? We have doubled our hits in the past couple of months. Conrad has been busy making it more interesting and more information each month. We now post most neighborhood meetings and any events going on in the city.

Have a nice month and we will see you on the 17th.

Your neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
