Presidents Report

Dear Neighbors,

Summer is over and many Neighborhood Associations will start holding monthly meetings again. Some of you took the summer off but CONA has been moving forward. Another workshop on the Dock Construction ordinance will take place on September 18th at 6PM. It is important that people living on the water get out to this meeting. The ordinance will decide how big a Dock can be built and how many water craft can be stored on them. This ordinance?’s first public hearing was on September 4th and due to poor attendance we have asked for another one. Also, due to a poor first public hearing on the Public Green Spaces ordinance we have asked for another hearing. Neighborhood Association Presidents will be notified about both of these hearings. Both of these ordinances will affect us all and they need our full attention.

At the September CONA Board meeting we will have a city representative to explain the Bread and Breakfast Ordinance, which CONA Board members requested at the last meeting. We have already given the city some input on this ordinance and we hope to see some changes to the proposal when it is explained. Pete Grasso, President of the Firefighters union will also be at this meeting. He was my Vice President when I was President of Disston, he understands the problems a neighborhood leader has and he knows the Firefighters programs. Jack Soule President of the PBA also has asked for a few minutes and wants to give you an update on Contract negotiations with the Police Department and problems Officers have in the neighborhoods. I also will give some time to a proposal on opening up Albert Whited Airport for nights flights. Right now no takeoffs and landings take place from sunset to sunrise. This proposal will be before city council on September 20th. As you can imagine this isn't going to be popular with the people who live near the airport. It looks like it is going to be a busy month.

Your Neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
