Neighborhood Conference a Success

Turnout for the Oct. 5 2002 neighborhood conference presented by The Community Forum, Neighborhood Partners and the Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department was greater than anticipated. The conference, themed Neighborhoods in Motion, was held at the Desert West Multigenerational Recreation Center.

?“It?’s wonderful to see so many people committed to making their neighborhoods better,?” says Amelia Hughes of the Neighborhood Services Department. ?“Everyone enjoyed the workshops and our wonderful presenters.?”

Conference attendees had eight workshops from which to choose. The presenters were Raul Jorquera and Maria Mu?±oz of the Institute of Cultural Affairs, Lt. Col. Kevin J.Osterman, Arizona National Guard Human Resources Office; Kay Ostrum, American Red Cross; Amy Jovonovich, Volunteer Center of Maricopa County; Veronica Pe?±a, Southwest Behavioral Center; Doreen Pollack, Make A Difference; Lynn Timmons Edwards, Phoenix Intergovernmental Programs; Sharon Ziotnick, Phoenix Police Department; and Barbara Bellamy, Gail LaGrander and Ronald Ramirez of the Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department.

The Neighborhood Services Department has put together an extensive program of free workshops for neighborhood leaders.
