I recently took a refresher drug course and realized that much of what I learned needed to be relayed to parents so you could protect your kids from drugs. First of all, let me tell you that studies indicate that parents who talk to their kids about the dangers of drugs are less likely to experiment with them. Many times we think our children?’s friends have the biggest impact on their lives, but the fact is that, you (the parent) can make a difference.
Many of you have heard the term RAVE or RAVE DRUGS but don't fully understand what they mean. Kids will tell their parents they are going to a teen dance party or rave. They tell the parents that there will be no alcohol and security is on the scene. What they fail to tell you is that the ?“off duty?” police or the security person is only in the parking lot and not inside patrolling the event. and that rave drugs (mainly Ecstasy) are being sold and taken like candy.
Here are a few common rave drugs; Gamma. Hydroxy Butyrate (GHB) also known as G, Jib, Scoop, Liquid E, Liquid X, Easy Lay, Gamma 10, Blue Nitro and the list goes on. MDMA also known as Ecstasy, X, E, Euros, XTC. Smurfs, Rolls, ?“The Hug Drugs?” and numerous other names depending on the imprint of the tablet i.e.: Calvin Klein X has an "CK" on the tablet. Ketamine also known as ?“K?”, vitamin K, special K, super K, ket, kit kat, cat valium.
Who?’s using GHB? Rave crowds, gay community, exotic dancers, bodybuilders and rapists. GHB is mostly in liquid forms in almost any container and can be mixed with water. Causes vomiting, seizures, out of body experiences, rapid / high intoxication, aggression possible.
Mdma (Ecstasy) is usually in tablet form about the size of an aspirin and many different colors. Pupils will dilate, pulse rate, blood pressure and body temperature above normal. Not a potent stimulant but keeps them up and dancing all night. Also causes teeth grinding, which is why they use pacifiers and teething rings.
Paraphernalia?—not fashion: pacifiers, lollipops, light wands or glow sticks. Vicks vapor rub inside a surgical facernask, Vicks inhalers. If your child has these types of paraphernalia I would be asking some questions. Ecstasy can be put on candy necklaces, hidden inside tootsie rolls, mixed in with Skittles or inside ?“peI?’ containers.
Immediate Risk: Death from heat-stroke type event, dental and jaw problems.
Long Term Risk: Brain damage
Then there is Ketamine, used as a veterinary anesthetic. Effects of the drug ranges from mild intoxication to catatoma and amnesia.
As you can see these RAVES and their drug use at them is very serious. Parents please talk to your kids about the dangers of these drugs and be sure to check out the story of where they are going and know who they will be with. Know what?’s in their rooms and in their backpacks. If your child wears shirts or has other insignia with ?“E?” or ?“K?” on it get rid of it. YOU are the parent and YOU have the RIGHT and the NEED to do that. Stay Informed!. . . ☺
