"Picture a Safer Ride Home" - Cameras Now in Use

Jul 19, 2003

On September 4, 2001, the City of Phoenix kicked off new efforts to reduce incidents of red light running in our community and to protect children in and around school zones. Unsafe driving habits all too often lead to senseless injury and death. For the past year, the police department has been involved in the "Brake on Yellow - Stop on Red" campaign that has focused red light running enforcement activity at intersections around the city where there are high incidents of motorists disregarding red lights. In addition, the police department also stepped up enforcement efforts in and around school zones. Now, with the addition of red light enforcement cameras and photo radar around school zones we believe we can further reduce the number of collisions resulting from careless driving habits. The message becomes clear as we strive to make streets in Phoenix safe for all, "Picture a Safer Ride Home ... Brake on Yellow - Stop on Red!". . . ☻
