Winter is here and so are the holidays. APS offers these winter energy saving tips to help you use energy wisely and enjoy the season.
Around the house:
- Keep windows and doors shut when the heat is on. Check caulking around door and windows. Weatherstrip doors to unheated areas of your home, such as the garage, crawl space and attic.
- Set the thermostat at 68 degrees or lower, and if you go on vacation, set it at 60 degrees or lower. For every degree you lower your thermostat, you can save about 2 percent on the heating portion of your bill.
- Cooking:
- Plan your holiday cooking for the cooler parts of the day. If temperatures outside are chilly, added heat from the kitchen will help warm the house.
Use a toaster oven or microwave to reheat small quantities of food.
- Don?’t open the oven door to peek at food that is baking or roasting?…☺
