Arizona Project Challenge is a preventative rather than a remedial ?“youth-at-risk?” program, which focuses on developing discipline, responsibility and education. This 17-month long program is administered and operated by the Arizona National Guard. The program offers an opportunity for selected young adults (ages 16-18) to achieve previously unattainable educational and employment goals. Project Challenge provides these young men and women a chance to change the course of their lives by significantly improving their life-coping skills in many areas including leadership development, conflict resolution and career exploration and planning. Students who complete the 5-month residential phase of the program are eligible to apply for scholarships related to their career goals. There is no cost to the student or the student?’s family for enrollment. The program is paid for by the Department of Defense and is supported by the National Guard Bureau and the State of Arizona. Although administered by the National Guard, there is no military obligation for those who participate.
