The best cure for fear is preparedness.
This is not a new concept.
Buying plastic sheets and duct tape to cover our doors and windows may send chills up our spines these days, but if the simple exercise of making that purchase serves to give us some peace of mind that we are now prepared, just do it.
Being prepared is nothing new.
The fact that being prepared gives us peace of mind is not a new concept.
Watching out for anything you see that you feel is suspicious, is not new.
The act of calling police to report suspicious activity (and let them sort it out) is a message N.A.I.L.E.M. has been sending you since the first day we formed. It is not a new concept.
Keeping ourselves, our families, our neighborhoods and our communities safe is nothing new.
A heart attack, a fatal car or air accident, a hurricane or tornado, are all equally frightening. Doing everything we humanly can to be prepared for them is nothing new.
What is new is we are living in a different world today, after September 11, 2001. A terrorist attack seems so frightening to us because it is so new to us.
The messages we are all hearing these days are telling us to be prepared in ways we all should be prepared anyway.
There could be any number of disasters, natural or man made, on any given day that having extra food, water and other supplies available to last a few days, could be important. Being prepared can help and also give us a great deal of peace of mind.
We do not cripple our lives in fear of these things, we prepare for them. We wear safety belts, drive safely, and now, we buy an extra roll of plastic and some duct tape.
We want to remind you that Block watch can be the eyes and ears for law enforcement and help deter or delay a crime. It could also be as effective in preventing a terrorist act. We believe that there is not much of a difference between an American bad guy and an international terrorist. American criminals kill or injure Americans every day.
Fearing a terrorist attack will not prevent it. Being prepared, being aware of our surroundings, paying attention, being alert can help to prevent a fatal car accident and it, and help deter or delay a crime, and may help to prevent us being a victim of a terrorist attack .
We encourage you to join your block watch again. Get involved in your neighborhood and help spread the word on how much being prepared can help us all.
Thank You,
N.A.I.L.E.M.. . . ☺
