Who is CPHA?

Candlewood Park Homeowners Association is a non-profit corporation founded in the mid-nineties to enhance the quality
of life in Candlewood, promote image of neighbor, provide line of communication with county, city, and other
governmental agencies, provide forum for airing of grievances, help preserve our property values, and other related
functions.

Membership is voluntary. Annual cost is $25 or $2.08 per month. The month you join will be prorated to March 1. For
example, currently the cost of membership to March 1 is $15. Renters are invited also.

WHAT IS CANDLEWOOD?

Candlewood is the English name for the Ocotillo plant. It is native and unique to this area of
northern Mexico and the southwestern U.S. When its long spiny stalks are dried the tip will burn like a candle
because of the resin in the wood. When in bloom the tip produces many, small, bright red, bell shaped flowers, which
attract
hummingbirds. An example is below, and also across from school flagpole at 3642 Candleglenn.

YOUR BENEFITS.
Your benefits are many. Some are tangible and others intangible, such as having a government recognized
organization speaking united on your behalf.
Since the founding, CPHA, has been instrumental in blocking a trailer part from locating here to depress home
values, requiring builders to put garages and fences, among other basics we take for granted now, sponsored
many volunteer clean up days , arranged National Night Out events, sent several criminal watch volunteers for
Sheriff Dept. training, and countless other community activities.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES:
Look for the lights at Foster Rd. entrance to be working any day . Look for the flags to be flying and
lit up at the entrance, also any day soon.
Look in this newletter for businesses or services offered by your fellow Candlewood Park residents.
Look for the Yard of the Month sign, and start planning for it to be in your yard soon because Crump?’s Hardware is giving
each winner a $25 gift certificate.

Look for the graffitti on Candlemeadow bridge to be covered over soon.
Look for less mesquitoes, due to natural, biological abatement program CPHA is sponsoring. It includes
purchase and release of thousands more mosquitoe eating minnows in Ackerman Creek and also, placing
mosquitoe larvae eating bacteria in same. Both are Health Dept. approved and are better than the chemical
sprays often used elsewhere
Look for NATIONAL NIGHT OUT sign at
elementary school(Come for the free food, activities for kids and adults, meeting neighbors, and
maybe entertainment) Time: August 5, 7-9pm at Candlewood Park Elementary School
Look up our website. www.neighborlink.com then click Candlewood Park Homeowners Association.
The numbers and officers are current. Future newsletters will be posted there as well.
Look for bartering opportunities here .
Residents will negotiate the value of their own goods or services.

CPHA offers bartering parties the service of a neutral third party , such as listing their
business and maintaining a written record of agreements.

CPHA will give a T-shirt with our emblem of the Candlewood plant, of course, to any volunteers.
Call , write, E-mail or visiit to volunteer, join, ask questions, or to say hello.

Meetings are 1 time each quarter , on the 2nd Saturday of the 1st month of
the new quarter,at 7 pm at 3642 Candleglenn(Across the street from school
office) See meeting schedule on page 1.
