kEEPING OUR NEIGHBORHOODS VITAL
Are you dealing with an abandoned or foreclosed property on your street that isn't being properly maintained?
There is a new city ordinance that requires all non-pwner occupied buldings, including foreclosed properties, to be registered with the Department of Neighborhood Services (DNS). Properties that have been foreclosed should be properly maintained throught the foreclosures process. If this is not being done, the DNS can help.
Please contact the city's Abandoned Properties in Foreclosure Program at (414) 286-2268, or visit on the web at www.milwaukee.gov/DNS/APIF
SAFE PASSAGE
chool has started and you are seeing the familiar yellow school buses in your neighborhood. Because the Police Dept., the Dist. #7 Block Watch Council, and you are concerned about the safety of the school children aboard these buses, the Safe Passage Program has been initiated.
We have become aware, through reports from neighbors, that some of the yellow buses are driving abvoe the speed limit on residentail streets and that sometimes children have been seen throwing items out of the bus windows. The goal of the Safe Passage program is to ensure the safety of our school children.
Thus, if you observe any of these behaviors, (speeding and/pr littering), you should jot down -
1) the name of the bus company,
2) the number on the bus, and
3) the location (street name and what hundred block) of the infraction and call the bus company. The name of the contacts at teh bu company and their phone number are listed on page 7 and on our web site www.neighborhoodlink.com/capitol_west/home.
We thank you for your efforts to ensure our neighborhood children's safe passage.
CWNA SPRING CLEAN UP - 2010
Capitol West Neighborhood Association is proud to announce the results of our Annual Spring Clean Up. It is an amazing display on the part of the volunteers from Milwaukee's West side of their concern for the appearance of their community.
The following church groups, neighborhood organizations, and block watches participated:
Hawkeye Block Club, Brady Block Club, Providence Baptist Church, Timmerman Trianagle Block Watch, Calvary Lutheran, Lindsay Park Neighborhood Asociation, Grassly Block Club, Lancaster & 68th Street Block Watch, Covenant Lutheran, Association for Northwest Advancement (ANA)
CWNA also sponsored Spring Clean Ups at 11 chools both public and private in the CWNA area during the week of April 19-23 (chosen because Earth Day was April 22). We applaud these students as they demonstrated through their efforts that they are learning a true concern for their community.
CWNA also received particiapation from volunteers from Felmers Chaney Correctional Center, Teen Challenge and St. Aemilian Lakeside.
And, we also are proud that a total of 46 individual volunteers spent 3 hours of their time on a Saturday morning in May to join in on working to make their community better. We hope that this spirit inspires even more individuals to join us for the CWNA Spring Clean Up in Spring 2011!
