Castleberry Hill

Meeting Notes - January 2001

NPU and Walker St.

Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association
Meeting Notes January 15. 2001

Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU):
Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association will present the master plan at
the next NPU-M meeting. The meeting will take place at the King Visitor
Center Auditorium, Auburn Avenue, Monday January 22 at 6:30 PM. All are
encouraged to attend. There have been difficulties passing item through NPU
in part because of lack of support. Jim Schneider informed all that after
attending four NPU meetings you are eligible to vote.
The master plan has already pass through city council committee so the
passing through NPU is a mute point per Jerry. Jerry pointed out that
continued participation at NPU meetings is helpful for Castleberry's
continued development.

Walker Street Traffic:
Haracio Romero brought up the problem of speeding vehicles on Walker. He was
having difficulty getting out of his garage on Haynes due to the volume and
of people not stopping. Other Walker residents agreed that traffic was a
problem on Walker Street. A committee of interest residents was formed to
look at speed bumps and other solutions to the Walker Street traffic woes.
Jody would e-mail the list to the interested parties.

Committees:
Discussed what committees association should have. The following committees
were suggested. Steering Committee, Public Safety Committee, Membership
Committee, Social Committee, and Clean- up Committee, Neighborhood
Beautification Committee, and Recycling Committee. All the committees would
be posted on the neighborhood web site.

Fund Raising:
Jody brought up that East Atlanta neighborhood does not want to man the beer
stalls at mid-city music festival and wanted to know if Castleberry would be
interested. Floated the idea and there was sufficient interest to warrant
more investigation. Jody will follow up with Joy Carter and get the details
for the next meeting.

Nelson Street Building Development:
Joel Roth of Fulton Supply Company briefed us on the building shell next to
his building. Fulton Supply has bought the building. They intend to build
one bedroom loft apartments. The apartments would have inside parking. Mr.
Roth is requesting that an additional floor to be added to the building. He
will have the initial renderings by the next meeting.

Zoning and CDC

Zoning:
Drafts for zoning was published and handed out at last months meeting.
Additional copies would be mailed out to those interested. The next meeting
for the Steering Committee was set for Saturday January 27th, 10:30 am at
Jerry Hoy's loft.

Volunteers for CDC:
Volunteers for the Community Development Corporation should arrange for a
meeting and make up assignment.

CSO and other Sanitation issues

CSO-Combined Sewer Overflows:
Four different plans ranging in cost from $300 million to 2 billion. Range
from total separation of sewer and storm drains to partial. Will effect our
property taxes.
Bill Bounds noted that many storm drains are blocked in Castleberry. Jerry
gave Bill number to call and commented that the city is very diligent in
clearing storm drains.
Subject brought up that Beazer Homes has no drainpipes on for roof drainage.
Jerry felt that little could be done because of the city feels the
neighborhood has given Beazer Homes enough grief already.

Dumping and blocking of Driveways:
While on the Beazer Homes topic it was brought up that contractors have been
dumping building materials, blocking sidewalks and parts of streets. It was
also noted that people use Castleberry as a dumping area. Jerry will check
with police and see what we can do about the dumping.

Trash Receptacles:
Bill Bounds pointed out that we needed trash receptacles on the lower end of
Walker Street and at Haynes and Walker. Jerry will look into getting more
receptacles.
