Catalina Del Sol Annual Cleanup - Dumpster Information

Schedule and Groundrules

For 2009, dumpster is planned to be available for six weeks starting in April. Exact dates will be provided when they become available.

The association will again provide a roll-off dumpster for use by CDS residents for yard waste ONLY. One dumpster will be rotated around the neighborhood over a six week period. It will be replaced with an empty dumpster when full. The dumpster will be at three locations around the neighborhood. Each location will have the dumpster for two full weekends. The dumpster may be at a location for up to two weeks, but that can’t be guaranteed. The two weeks is approximate depending on when the dumpster needs to be replaced with an empty. We won't put an empty at a location when only two or three days remain on that location's schedule. A partially filled dumpster can't be moved, but must be replaced. This costs us money for a partial dumpster use. Please be flexible about the schedule. We plan to get at least two weekends at each location before moving the dumpster.

Starting Friday, TBD the dumpster will be at the 1st location: East end of Mt. Pleasant next to 9990.

By Friday, TBD the dumpster will be at the 2nd location: West end of Mt. Pleasant across from the East Vista Montanas intersection.

By Friday, TBD the dumpster will be at the 3rd location: south side of East Vista Montanas near 9820. The dumpster will remain at this location at least through the weekend of June 6 and possibly into the week following depending on fill level.

PLEASE, vegetation yard waste ONLY - no construction materials or other non-vegetation debris including rocks and dirt (make sure your contractors know this). The material from the dumpster is shredded into compost by a machine and placed on landfills. We get a very low rate for this type of material. If the waste company finds materials other than natural vegetation, we will be charged a large fee for removing the material. Your dumpster volunteers have to remove any materials other than vegetation and personally dispose of them. We’ve had to remove pop cans, cinderblocks, 2X4s, dirty diapers, dirt and rocks, and other sundry items.

The dumpster is for use by CDS residents and contractors working on residents' behalf. Please be vigilant and challenge anyone you suspect is not from our neighborhood. You may use the dumpster at any of the locations no matter where you live in the neighborhood. You’re not required to use only the dumpster at a location nearest your residence.

Load your waste at the end opposite the door; pile it as high as possible to be most efficient. Compact your materials by stamping them down to get the most out of each load. Please close the door after placing and compacting your waste. A full dumpster can't be transported if material extends over the top (please make sure your contractors also understand this). If it is overfilled, your dumpster volunteers will have to empty the overflow material by some means into another dumpster. The association will be charged penalties for misuse including overfilling and improper waste.

PLEASE keep the area around the dumpster neat as a courtesy to your neighbors.

Please make good use of this opportunity to clean up your property. This annual dumpster program is a great way to help keep our neighborhood looking attractive.

Status and Updates

First dumpster located at 9990 E Mt Pleasant in place on Thursday, April 12. Replaced with empty dumpster on Monday, April 16. Monday, April 23, the dumpster is full and an empty will be placed at west end of CDS on Mt Pleasant. This is ahead of schedule, but can't be avoided. We will not fill a dumpster at 9990 in three or four weekdays and a partially full dumpster cannot be moved (the contents all fall to the door end and we are stuck). So we are starting the second location a couple of days early.

We are finding non-vegetation items in the dumpster once again. We have to personally remove this stuff and put in our own trash. Please do not put ANYTHING in the dumpster except vegetation materials. Please let any workers you use know this. Please make sure they understand this.

This vegetation waste does not go in the dump. It goes through shredders and the composte is spread on dump sites. The dumpster company has to go through our waste and sort out non-vegetation materials. For this, they will charge us a fee. This is why you must not put anything other than shreddable vegetation in the dumpsters.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Thursday, 4/26/07
The rolloff is about 85% full. The dumpster can only handle maybe one good trailer load now. A replacement has been ordered for Friday, 4/27 to support the coming weekend activity.

Friday 4/27/07 empty dumpster arrives mid-morning.
Saturday afternoon 4/28 dumpster filling quickly. A load of prickley pear was blocking access to allow other vegetation to be put in and stacked up. Homeowner graciously restacked their prickley pear to give us another day or two of use. Sunday morning 4/29. Dirt and rock debris in the dumpster. Homeowner removed. This kind of material is not allowed. It will not go through grinders to become composte and we will be fined, or charged a much higher rate, when such materials are found by Pima Waste.

4/29 Palo verde limbs piled on top and hanging over the sides by four feet. Dumpster full all the way to the doors. Keith Connelley and Rip Lowman got a sweaty workout tramping down the limbs to get within the sides of the rolloff. Thank you very much to the parties leaving it this way. We have to do better, folks. This is a volunteer effort and you are proving nothing by not playing by some basic rules.

This dumpster is full and an empty will be ordered for Monday, 4/30. Please try to be more considerate of your neighbors and the volunteers who make this dumpster program happen. Thanks.

4/30 Dumpster only about 75% full after compacting. Some usage today, but only over the top. Poor loading on Sunday afternoon rendered the door access unusable.

5/1 9am. Dumpster replacement requested for today but no dumpsters available to be scheduled until tomorrow. A replacement dumpster is scheduled/expected for Wednesday morning between 8 am and 11 am.

5/2 10am. New empty dumpster in place.

5/8 The dumpster is about 60% full but will be replaced on the move to the Vistas Montanas location later in the week. The exact day this will happen will be determined by when Pima Waste can deliver in order to start the next weekend fresh at the new site.

5/9 A replacement dumpster is now scheduled to be delivered Friday morning, 5/11, between 9 and 11am. It will be at the new location on the curve at 9820 E Vista Montanas. The current dumpster is substantially full and will be removed from E Mt Pleasant.

5/11 9 am New dumpster in place on E Vista Montans and previous one (Mt Pleasant) removed. This dumpster is placed going the opposite way of usual placement because of the size of the space, the need to keep the mail box path clear for postmen, and trying to provide some space by the door for unloading. It's also the only orientation in which the delivery truck can line up and drop the dumpster. This one also has one very large door which swings toward the street. Please exercise care when opening this door. Keep the door closed and secure at all times when not in use.

This is the final location for the dumpster program this year. The dumpster will remain through Memorial Day weekend. As always, please load the end opposite the door and stack your vegetation-only material as high as you can to get maximum use per dumpster. Thanks for your excellent cooperation.

5/17 The dumpster has not been loaded well this week. Very long tree branches/trunks have just been put in without any attempt to compress. A smallish load of prickly pear has been placed up against the existing pile when
it should have been pitched up on the pile. A sweaty hour of compaction and rearranging has freed up a lot of space.

The dumpster is about half full after having been in place for a full week now. To the casual observer, it probably looks 3/4 full, but there is a lot of space for materials up on top in the front half. We will go with this for the weekend. I would expect that an empty dumpster will need to be in place in the early part of next week. Hopefully that will hold us through the Memorial Day weekend. The dumpster will leave on Tuesday after Memorial Day.

Please stack your materials as high as you can without going above the top edge of the container. And always pack your materials down. Just get up there and jump up and down. It really works.

Thursday, 5/24/07 The dumpster has been in place on Vista Montanas for two full weeks now and is not yet 3/4 full. We will continue with this dumpster for the Memorial Day weekend without bringing in an empty. Very little has been added over the last week now. The dumpster will be removed next Tuesday and not replaced.

Hope everyone had a chance to do some cleanup and use the facilities provided by the CDS Homeowners Assoc.

5/29/07 Pima Waste has been called to remove the dumpster. The area has been cleaned up and the door is secure.
The last dumpster was in place on Vista Montanas for two weeks and four days and was approx. 3/4 full. Please do not use any further. Thanks.

Vista Montanas final dumpster hauled away on 5/30/07.

Empty dumpsters were put in place on 4-12, 4-16, 4-23, 4-27, 5-2, and 5-11-07 for a total of six dumpsters. That's a lot of material that's been removed from CDS. See you next year!
