Preserving and Enhancing Oregon City for Future Generations.
Time is drawing near for the 16th Annual Cleanup and Enhancement Event on April 26, 2003. This year the committee has received 13 site nominations from the community. Some of the projects include ivy removal, park cleanups, a wetland restoration and enhancement project, litter pick-ups and several projects in and around the Clackamette Park area. To participate in any of these projects, report to Clackamette Park, 1955 Clackamette Drive at 8:30 AM, April 26 for an orientation and safety review. Volunteers will be dispersed to various sites around the community. During 2002, the First City Cleanup and Enhancement Committee were involved in many projects other than the Annual Cleanup. The purpose of the Committee is to involve the community in cleanup and enhancement projects 365 days a year; not just one day. Committee members and community volunteers planted 400 trees, scrubs and water plants along
Washington Street, landscaped 25,000 square feet with trees and native plants along Tumwater Street by the Museum of the Oregon Territory, put in 20,000 square feet of trail and native
plantings along the Falls View overlook and assisted the Rivershore Motel in recovering a trail system along the Willamette River Any time you see bulbs popping up, flowers blooming or native vegetation where there had been weeds or garbage before-that is probably the work of the committee.
There has been a change to the voucher system this year. As in the past, a voucher entitles participants to dispose of household garbage and recyclables only at the Metro South Transfer Station from April 26 to May 3, 2003. As many of you may have experienced last year, vouchers ran out quickly. There will be a limited amount of vouchers available this year as well and they will be distributed on a first come basis. This year vouchers will be made available to the cleanup volunteers first.
The following will apply to others picking up vouchers:
1. Proof of Oregon City residency is required with only one voucher per household. We do encourage people to car-pool but each passenger must show identification for a separate residence.
2. Vouchers will have a value of $25.00. Last year the voucher amount was open. To receive a larger number of vouchers, a dollar limit had to be applied this year. Any amount over the $25.00 will be the responsibility of the voucher holder.
3. The vouchers will be good at the transfer station for one week after the event, April 26 until May 3, 2003.
4. All loads must be tarped. There will be fines issued for untarped loads.
