Minutes from Cheverton Neighborhood Association Meeting

Donna Steed ran the meeting and started with the collection of ballots from the members present at the meeting as well as those that had been dropped off in the collection box. Also there was a welcome and thank you for those that came to the meeting.
Introductions were given by those that attended.
It was discussed that the sign committee has had two meetings at this time, and had 11 people present at the last meeting. The topics of the sign committee included other places to put t he sign besides the middle island, easements on either side of the entrance, the possibility of zoning inspectors, ROW easement, DOT approval, and inspection to meet, then build with inspection approval. Possibilities of a grant from the city to match our funds was also discussed. The grant committee for the county meets March, June, and September, but there was a possibility of a retroactive grant. The sign committee is to meet with the finance committee at their next meeting to discuss fund raisers, etc, to raise more money for the sign, if needed. The next meeting is set for Oct 17th at the Albemarle Center. Jason cloud said he was going to check into the easement and process for building the sign and Mike Brinkley was in attendance and said that he would be available to build a brick sign. Nothing firm was decided at this meeting.

The finance committee spokesperson said that there is approximately 2100 dollars in the Cheverton account and discussed reinstating the dues beginning the 1st week of November and keeping the amount at 20.00 for now. The idea of a p.o. box for the money to be sent to was discussed and that a newsletter will come out prior to collection. Other ideas for raising money included a turkey raffle, Christmas bazaar, Community yard sale, BBQ/fish fry with all monies going to the community fund.

We discussed the idea of block captains to handle certain tasks on your specific block, as well as a Bobcats rep for raffle with a signed basketball.

The next meeting for the finance committee, not including the upcoming meeting with the sign committee is to be planned after an estimate for the sign is completed.

It was noted that the box of bylaws is still missing at this time. Christmas decorations were discussed as well as island maintenance, water access, and whether there are pipes available underground.

An animal list of people and their pets was discussed so that if an animal is seen wandering the neighborhood, it will be easier to facilitate bringing that animal home safely.

Safety committee reps stated that there is a realtor list with street #?’s and phone numbers. Contact Yvonne Jordan with that information.

Cleanup committee to get a quote for maintenance of the island.

At this point the floor was opened up to questions. Questions about visibility of the sign, lights for the sign, phone number list for the sign committee, the Charlotte Mecklenberg website, and link www.neighborhoodlink.com and how to access by zip code then clicking on the name of the neighborhood. The Stewarts of 7718 Blythwood Lane accepted responsibility for this website. Newsletter will be accessible from the website after the site is finished by the website administrator.

The next meeting will be Oct 21st at 3pm for the entire neighborhood at the Albemarle neighborhood center.
